Kent,
We got new information yesterday, courtesy of our Loon buds who work for Xanterra. They insisted that they don't know this firsthand, but I think they have a pretty good info pipeline. The griz between Lake and West Thumb was CHARGING snowmobiles. I know it is macabre, but I crack up when I think about a recently aroused, grizzly, with the attitude of Walter Matthau as Max Goldman in "Grumpy Old Men" or Mr. Wilson in "Dennis the Menace", reacting to the buzzing machines that he thinks woke him up.
We had an impromptu "Mini-Loonion" on the roadside at The Confluence yesterday. Auwingwalker and I were there, harassing bison. (OK, it was mutual harassment. They crossed Soda Butte Creek, ascended to the road, and wanted to come down the road where we were parked and basking in the sunshine. After a brief "staredown", we got out of their way. They outnumbered us and outweighed us. It was like the Sharks and the Jets, with one gang on mega-steroids.) Shortly thereafter, LoriD. and Mark R. wandered by. We recruited them into our "gang", just in case the bison tried any more intimidation tactics. Although we didn't find any of the big dogs or groggy griz, we did figure out where all the bighorn rams went. We spotted them across the way, up on top of the shoulder of Mt. Norris. It was just short of shirtsleeve weather out there. The warm spell has been under way since last Sunday, and is forecast to continue through next Saturday. If anyone is looking for mud, I have a line on a whole lot of it!
